Pamela Lee Vecchiarino Nursing Leadership Award

The Pamela Lee Vecchiarino Nursing Leadership Award was created to honor the memory of Pam Vecchiarino, RN, MSN, a highly respected Connecticut nurse leader and former President-Elect of ONE-CT, who passed away on April 16, 2011.  Pam practiced nursing and held progressive nursing leadership roles during a 25-year career at Hartford Hospital.  Her most recent position was Director for Medicine, Oncology and IV Therapy.  During her remarkable quarter century of practice, Pam’s colleagues witnessed her tireless commitment to nursing practice excellence, education, professional growth, and research. Pam’s inspirational work helped create a culture of care marked by intellectual rigor and the core values of partnership, professionalism, and pride. The focus for Pam was always on patients and families, but extended to include those who cared for them.

Pam’s great warmth, empathy and kindness characterized her nursing care and her leadership style.  She was able to gain trust, resolve conflicts, and build teams.  As a leader, she modeled these skills and coached and mentored many others.  Pam also had a great passion for patient safety and modeled effective multidisciplinary collaboration to achieve better outcomes for patients.  She facilitated the development of staff and was a great champion for shared governance and a culture that valued the contributions of each individual.  She took great pride in her own work and brought tremendous energy and passion to everything she did, not only in the hospital setting, but in her community as well.  So many people were touched by Pam’s care and leadership during her stellar career.

ONE-CT wishes to honor Pam Vecchiarino for her great contributions to the organization, patient care and nursing leadership by recognizing another Connecticut nurse leader who demonstrates the same passion for excellence in nursing that Pam did.  The Pamela Lee Vecchiarino Nursing Leadership Award will be awarded annually at the ONE-CT Annual Meeting.  The awardee must meet the following criteria:
